Huawei Technologies launched its second flagship smartphone , the Ascend P7 , on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 as part of an effort to break the dominance in the upper class of the mobile devices market where Apple and Samsung continues to dominate .
Huawei Ascend P7 which is claimed as the slimmest phone in the world with 6.5 mm thick will be sold in 31 markets , including the UK , Germany and China , starting this month with a price of 449 euros without contract SIM card or service . But this phone reportedly will not be sold in the United States .
Huawei, known as a maker of telecommunications network equipment that competes with Ericsson of Sweden, has become the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world behind Samsung and Apple just three years after the launch of its own brand of mobile phones and tablets .
The consumer device business , which accounts for about 23 percent of sales last year , growing almost three times faster than the telecom equipment business last year . The success of the model built by Huawei smartphone sales at affordable prices in the market appealing to consumers in Western Europe , but it proved difficult to break into the U.S. market .
